Today marks an important step in Fiat’s path through the world of social media and online communities – which has so far centred around the international website 500 Wants You and the Italian language blogs Quellichebravo and duePuntozero.
2009 is the year in which Fiat has decided to step up its presence on social networks, by creating Fiat On The Web: an operations hub in the true sense of the word, where Fiat people can interact and communicate with web users through official social media.
The official Fiat page on Facebook is aimed at informing and updating people on the latest news, publishing photos and videos on the cars and events at the Turin firm. Fiat also uses the page to promote surveys and discussions and to answer questions posted by users. So far the page has mostly been in Italian, but from today it is in English too, so as to include Fiat fans all over the world.
On Twitter, Fiat keeps users informed and updated, answers their questions and posts surveys and opportunities for interaction, all in a direct, immediate way. Fiat On The Web on Twitter allows Fiat people to communicate with all the users on the web in messages that are 140 characters long, in both Italian and English.
On YouTube and Flickr, Fiat uploads videos and photos of its vehicles, narrating how the cars originate and are developed, and illustrating various Fiat events (motor shows, presentations, evening events, test drives etc).
Fiat uses FriendFeed to share its multimedia lifestream (news, photos, videos, conversations and discussions): it’s a convenient way to interact with web users everywhere, in Italian and in English.
Fiat uses Delicious to publish and share all the social bookmarks relating to its activity (on- and off-line): it’s a useful tool for staying up-to-date on issues that are of particular interest in relation to Fiat.

This widespread presence across the social media, called Fiat On The Web, shows just how committed the Fiat team is to being on the web, right where people communicate, stay informed and interact with each other.
The meaning of the project is therefore to open up a space for dialogue and interaction with all those four-wheel fans who talk about cars and sustainable mobility on a daily basis, as well as discussing ecology, design, economics and technology. By involving and interacting with the Internet community, Fiat has set itself an ambitious target: to get to the point at which cars will be designed together with the drivers themselves, through the web.
